This map is from ‘Gemeente-Atlas van Noordbrabant naar officieele bronnen bewerkt’ by J. Kuyper and published in Leeuwarden by Hugo Suringar. Very little to nothing is know of Kuyper [Kuijper]. Kuyper was however the most important author of Dutch atlases in the second half of 19th century. He is especially well know for his ‘Gemeente Atlas’ [Municipality atlas] containing a total 1210 detailed maps of all cities and towns in the Netherlands. The sober maps are very detailed showing streets, rivers, railways, churches, houses and windmills. Below the map the geographical size, in ‘bunders’, and the number of inhabitants of the city, town or municipality is indicated. The regional and municipality borders are is most cases coloured, very often applied by children. The lithographed maps are printed on typical somewhat brittle 19th century paper. Verso blank.
