Terra Sancta, sive Promissionis, olim Palestina recens delineata, et in lucem edita per Nicolaum Visscher anno 1659. Beautiful and detailed map, with handsome cartouche at top centre, flanked by garlands and cherubs. The land is divided by tribe, and shows extensive detail of cities, towns, mountains, valleys and waterways, often with alternative place names. Caves, wells and graves that are mentioned in the Bible are noted. Repeating a common error, de Wit erroneously connects the Sea of Galilee to the Mediterranean. The inset plan at bottom shows the encampment of tribes around the desert tabernacle. Moses stands to the left of this encampment and Aaron to the right. Top right corner : Nunc apud Petrum Schenk Junior. Verso blank.
