Titled : Indiae Orientalis Insvlarvmqve Adiacenti Vm Ty Pvs, from the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. A fine map showing India, China and New Guinea, sea-monsters attacking a galleon, a pair of mermaids and a completely unrecognisable Japan. The west coast of America can be seen top right, with three cities marked. This map is based upon Mercator's world map of 1569. The difficulty of mapping this archipelago was such, that for centuries to come maps of the area remain incorrect. Exact date is not know as this edition was published in 1570, 1571 and 1573. Verso Latin text [48]
